President Donald Trump said early Wednesday that Iran’s leadership should move quickly to abandon its nuclear program and agree to a nonnuclear deal, as the conflict between Washington and Tehran reached its two-month mark, as reported by the New York Post.
“Iran can’t get their act together. They don’t know how to sign a nonnuclear deal,” Trump wrote on Truth Social shortly after 4 a.m. The post included an AI-generated illustration depicting Trump in a dark suit and aviator sunglasses holding an AK-47 rifle with explosions in the background. A slogan alongside the image read, “No more Mr. Nice Guy!”

The statement came amid continued tensions between the United States and Iran, with the White House expressing frustration over what officials describe as Iran’s unwillingness to engage on its nuclear program.
Iranian officials have insisted that nuclear discussions be postponed until a broader peace agreement is reached and the Strait of Hormuz is fully reopened to shipping.

Marco Rubio addressed the issue during an appearance on Fox News Monday, stating, “Suffice it to say that the nuclear question is the reason why we’re in this in the first place.”
He continued, “If Iran was just a radical country run by radical people, you know, it’d still be a problem. But they are revolutionary. In essence, they seek to expand and export their revolution. Not just what they do in Iran. That’s why they’re with Hezbollah in Lebanon. That’s they’ve supported Hamas. That’s how they’ve support the militias in Iraq. They don’t just seek to dominate Iran. They seek to dominate the region. And imagine that with a nuclear weapon.”
Rubio also discussed the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz, a key shipping route through which an estimated one-fifth of the world’s oil supply passes annually. He described the waterway as “an economic nuclear weapon that [Iran is] trying to use against the world, and they’re bragging about it.”
He added, “They’re putting up billboards in Tehran bragging how they can hold 25% or 20% of the world’s energy hostage. Imagine if those same people had access to a nuclear weapons. They would hold the whole region hostage.”

Trump’s early morning statement came hours before Pete Hegseth was scheduled to testify before lawmakers on Capitol Hill. The hearing before the House Armed Services Committee is expected to include questions about the ongoing conflict, which began with Operation Epic Fury on Feb. 28.
Lawmakers are also set to review the administration’s proposed 2027 military budget, which calls for an increase in defense spending to $1.5 trillion. The proposal represents a significant rise in military funding and is expected to be a central topic during the hearing.
Officials anticipate that the conflict with Iran will dominate much of the discussion as lawmakers seek updates on military operations, strategic objectives, and diplomatic efforts related to the situation.
