A spokesman for the Maine chapter of the largest labor union in America threatened death by firing squad to any Democrats who refused to support Graham Platner’s campaign come November.

Andy O’Brien, the communications director for the Maine American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO), fantasized on social media about lining Democrats who refuse to support Graham Platner “up against the wall,” as if for execution. The former state legislator’s Monday post was in response to an opinion piece published in The Hill by a female Democrat strategist who criticized her party’s silence over Platner’s questionable character. ORONO, MAINE – MAY 24: Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Graham Platner stand together during a “Fighting Oligarchy” tour stop at the Collins Center for the Arts on the University of Maine campus on May 24, 2026 in Orono, Maine. The Monday op-ed blasted the overwhelming Democrat support Platner received — even after the married Maine Senate candidate’s Nazi tattoo, sexual messages on the “predator’s paradise” app Kik, offensive now-deleted Reddit posts, and allegations of abuse surfaced.

O’Brien responded to The Hill’s post of the op-ed, writing on X, “First up against the wall when the revolution comes.”

The op-ed’s author, Laurie A. Watkins, writes, “I have dedicated much of my career to advancing causes I believe make our country stronger. But I have never believed that a candidate deserves my vote simply because they have a ‘D’ next to their name.”

“Perhaps that is what troubles me most about this moment: the growing expectation that we should be willing to set aside questions of character when the stakes feel high enough, for the sake of electoral victory,” Watkins continues.

In addition to his communications role with the Maine chapter of the nation’s largest federation of unions, O’Brien served as a state representative from 2008 to 2012, according to his LinkedIn. He posts regularly on his Substack in support of Platner.

O’Brien has also written frequently as a champion of workers’ rights, attacking Republican educational policies and race-related oppression targeting union workers. In one article, titled “It’s time to fight back against white supremacist organizing in Maine,” the Platner supporter condemned “dehumanizing rhetoric against our Black and brown neighbors” and claimed that “unions actually help make people less racist.”

Platner’s campaign has sharply divided Democrat politicians, receiving some endorsements and other condemnations. (RELATED: Democrat Rep. Jake Auchincloss Calls Graham Platner’s Nazi Tattoo ‘Disqualifying’)

Platner will face incumbent Republican Sen. Collins in the November general election. Current polls place Platner two points ahead of Collins at 49 percent.
