Whoopi Goldberg Missing From ‘The View’ in a Surprise No-Show [WATCH]

Whoopi Goldberg had a wild reason for missing “The View” this Monday — she was grounded in Italy after a volcano erupted, as reported by Page Six.

In a pre-recorded video message aired during the July 6 episode, the longtime host explained that she was stuck in Sicily due to Mount Etna’s latest eruption.

“I am in Sicily right now, and Mount Etna, who is one of our active volcanoes here in Italy, decided to go off today,” Goldberg said.

She went on to add that she and her team had spent “most of the day trying to get back to the United States,” but with all the nearby airports shut down, there was nothing to do but wait.

Goldberg, 70, promised viewers she would “be back as soon as I can.”

The actress and comedian joked that while everyone has “all kinds of stories about” their vacations, hers “takes the cake.”

According to Italy’s National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, Mount Etna began its current eruptive cycle on June 26.

By July 5, an uptick in lava flow was recorded, forcing numerous flight cancellations and trapping tourists — Goldberg among them — on the island.

She was not the only “View” regular to miss the morning broadcast. Ana Navarro was unable to travel from Florida due to bad weather, while Sara Haines, 48, stayed home to deal with storm damage.

Navarro, 54, let her followers know she would be absent, posting on Instagram, “I’m sorry I won’t be there tomorrow. I’m sure the other ladies will have great, insightful things to say. Take a little time to enjoy ‘The View’ without me.”

With three co-hosts out, producers called on Joy Behar to fill in — even though she typically has Mondays off and had just returned from a short break herself.

“So you may be asking, ‘Why am I here on a Monday?’ I asked myself the same question,” the 83-year-old said, getting laughs from the audience.

According to Behar, producer Brian Teta “begged [her] to come in — on his knees, where he belongs.” She teased that the plea came because “we are down three co-hosts today.”

Behar kept the humor going throughout the episode.

She playfully suggested Goldberg was “using the old volcano excuse,” lightheartedly ribbed Navarro’s Florida weather woes, “It’s always hot in Miami, what’s the problem?” — and joked about Haines’ home repairs by asking if anyone else in the audience had storm damage. When no one answered, she smirked, “No, just Sara.”
