During Monday’s episode of ABC’s “The View,” co-host Whoopi Goldberg sharply criticized President Donald Trump over the ongoing controversy surrounding the Lincoln Memorial reflecting pool renovations, as reported by Breitbart.

Goldberg remarked that Trump should either go to jail or be sued over what she called a disastrous outcome.

Goldberg’s comments began as she described Trump’s claims that vandals had damaged the pool. According to Trump, chemicals had been illegally placed in the water, leaving a 300-foot gash in the structure.

Reports stated that five individuals were arrested in connection with the incident and that Trump promised a strict ten-year prison sentence for those found guilty.

Responding to that statement, Goldberg said, “He is claiming that vandals are to blame. He says they illegally placed chemicals in the water and left a 300-foot gash in the pool. Now, five people are said to have been arrested. He says a ten-year prison sentence will be strictly enforced. Well, if he says he’s going to jail for 10 years, I’m going to let him go.”

Continuing her critique, Goldberg accused Trump of being responsible for the damage rather than the alleged vandals.

“It seems to me that had he not messed with the pool, it would still be a reflecting pool instead of a liquid jungle, which is what it looks like,” she said.

She questioned the validity of blaming individuals without clear proof, stating, “But to accuse five people of doing this, but seemingly there’s no proof.”

Goldberg then shifted to a call for legal accountability, suggesting that the government or citizens take action similar to what a homeowner would do if a contractor caused extensive damage to their property.

She said, “I want somebody to sue because if a contractor did this at your house, this is what you would do.”

She proposed that the country should take collective action.

“I think the country needs to say we’re suing you, suing you for doing this without our permission, and we’re suing the people who did it because clearly they didn’t know what they were doing,” Goldberg continued.

Her remarks carried a tone of frustration mixed with sarcasm, underscoring her disbelief at both the accusations of vandalism and the poor state of the iconic monument’s reflecting pool.

“Clearly. But, you know, it’s just a suggestion because, you know, a lot of money is going away,” Goldberg concluded.

The exchange underscored the increasingly tense debate on “The View,” where discussions of Trump’s policies and personal actions frequently draw strong reactions.

Goldberg’s co-hosts did not appear to interrupt during her comments, allowing her to fully express her criticism of the handling of the repairs.

While Goldberg’s statements were delivered with humor, her underlying argument suggested severe mismanagement in the restoration process.

By comparing the national landmark to a personal property gone wrong, she sought to make the issue relatable to viewers while underscoring the scale of the alleged problem.

The renovation of the Lincoln Memorial reflecting pool has drawn widespread attention, partly due to its symbolic importance and partly because of public skepticism about accountability for its current state.

Goldberg’s remarks contributed to that conversation by questioning the credibility of the official narrative and calling directly for consequences.

Her comments align with “The View’s” broader approach of tackling high-profile political topics with strong opinion and confrontation.

Goldberg’s demand that Trump face legal repercussions or imprisonment reflected both her personal outrage and the show’s continued engagement in politically charged cultural moments.

As the discussion concluded, Goldberg wrapped her commentary with her characteristic mix of humor and indignation, leaving the audience to consider whether her suggestion of suing or imprisoning Trump was rhetorical or a genuine call to action.

Her remarks quickly drew attention online, echoing her long-standing critiques of Trump’s leadership and decisions.
