Wisconsin Dem Francesca Hong Fled Culver’s Because ‘Too Many Old White People’

Democrat Wisconsin gubernatorial candidate Francesca Hong is facing renewed attention over several past social media posts after older comments resurfaced during the campaign, as reported by Breitbart.

Among the posts drawing attention is a 2019 message in which Hong described leaving a Culver’s restaurant in Black River Falls, Wisconsin, because she said she felt overwhelmed by the people inside.

In the post, Hong wrote, “I ate two bites of my kid’s cheeseburger at a Culver’s in black river falls and told him they ran out of ice cream. Mostly just wanted to leave bc I was on the verge of a anxiety attack.”

She continued by explaining why she wanted to leave, writing that there were “to many old white people who didn’t think we spoke english.”

Hong did not elaborate in the post on what led her to conclude that people in the restaurant believed she and those with her did not speak English.

The 2019 comments have circulated again as Hong campaigns for governor, prompting criticism from political opponents and renewed discussion on social media.

In response to the renewed attention, Hong pointed to another post from 2020 discussing Culver’s menu items.

“They are the perfect road curd. No other fried curd comes close. Only Culvers curds or fresh curds are appropriate for travel. For in person dining Culver’s curds are indeed, trash,” Hong wrote.

She later addressed the resurfacing of her older posts in another social media message.

“I see that folks are digging up old tweets in an attempt to shift the narrative in this race. I stand by this statement, unequivocally. Their fries also leave much to be desired. The reuben, however, slaps,” she wrote.

The renewed focus on Hong’s social media history has also revived discussion of comments she made in 2021 regarding policing.

In a post from that year, Hong wrote, “Police exist to uphold white supremacy. Defund then abolish. Reform can’t be an option.”

Those remarks have also become an issue during the gubernatorial campaign.

Speaking to Fox News last week, Hong said her position has changed since making those comments.

“People can evolve,” Hong said when discussing the earlier post.

She also stated that, if elected governor, she would not pursue policies aimed at eliminating police funding.

“The governor cannot defund the police, and I won’t defund the police,” Hong said. “But I will invest in the things we know prevent crime.”

Hong’s previous social media activity has become part of the broader discussion surrounding her campaign for Wisconsin governor, with opponents highlighting the posts while Hong has argued that attention to them is intended to redirect the focus of the race.

The resurfaced posts span several years and address different topics, including her experience at a Culver’s restaurant, her opinions about the restaurant’s menu, and her past statements on law enforcement. As the campaign continues, those comments are likely to remain part of the public debate surrounding her candidacy.
