Zohran Mamdani’s Wife Hosts Pricey Corsica Retreat Casting Virgin Mary as Palestinian Figure Under Occupation

Rama Duwaji, the wife of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, is reportedly participating in an Islamic women’s spiritual retreat in Corsica, France, centered on Mary, known as Maryam in the Quran, as reported by Fox News.

According to reports, Duwaji is serving as a co-host for the sold-out “Mary in the Quran” retreat, which began Thursday and is scheduled to run through July 14.

The event is organized by The Women Sanctuary, a group that describes itself as offering women’s retreats rooted in Islamic tradition, spiritual renewal, and wellness.

The retreat website highlights the significance of Mary in Islam and describes her role in the Quran.

“She is the only woman mentioned by name in the Qur’an — mentioned 34 times — and the only one to have an entire chapter revealed in her name,” the website states.

“Surah Maryam. Her story is not only one of divine motherhood, but of unwavering faith, sacred retreat, and total devotion to Allah.”

The retreat materials also describe Mary as a Palestinian woman living under occupation, a characterization that has drawn attention because Mary is one of Christianity’s most revered figures as the mother of Jesus and is likewise honored in Islam as Maryam.

The Women Sanctuary advertises the retreat as a multi-day program combining religious study with wellness activities.

According to its website, attendees receive daily organic meals prepared with locally sourced ingredients, communal prayers, devotional practices, lectures, workshops, and periods of personal reflection.

Participants are also given free time to pray, meditate, journal, relax by the pool, or explore the island.

The event is sold out, with prices beginning at just over $4,000 per attendee, according to the organization’s website.

The website does not explicitly list Duwaji as a co-host for the Corsica retreat. However, The New York Post reported that she would serve in that role during the event.

Earlier this month, The New York Post also reported that Duwaji traveled to Mallorca, Spain, for another sold-out Women Sanctuary retreat titled “Plants of the Quran.”

During that gathering, she was identified as the organization’s “artist in residence” and one of the event’s hosts.

Photos published by conservative commentator and comedian Arynne Wexler showed Duwaji at Newark Liberty International Airport before departing for Mallorca over the Independence Day holiday weekend, according to the report.

Duwaji, a Syrian American artist, has received public attention alongside Mayor Mamdani since he took office as New York City’s mayor on Jan. 1, 2026.

Mamdani became the city’s first Muslim mayor and the first mayor sworn into office using a Quran.

Mayor Mamdani has drawn national attention for his Democratic socialist platform as well as his positions on immigration and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Duwaji also addressed past social media activity earlier this year. In April, she issued a public apology for posts she made as a teenager.

She said she was “truly sorry” for the hurt the posts caused, although she did not identify specific posts.

Previously, The Washington Free Beacon reported that her Tumblr account had included anti-Israel content, including a September 2017 post featuring Palestinian militant Leila Khaled.

Fox News Digital reported that it contacted both Mayor Mamdani’s office and The Women Sanctuary seeking comment regarding Duwaji’s reported participation in the Corsica retreat. Neither response was included in the report.

The retreat remains scheduled to conclude on July 14.
