Ro Khanna Gets Obliterated Over His Fantasy of Free Child Care [WATCH]

Democrats never seem to tire of promising Americans that government can make expensive things free.

The catch, as always, is that taxpayers still receive the bill, only after Washington has added another sprawling program and more government control, as reported by Townhall.

Rep. Ro Khanna is now pushing that familiar formula for child care.

His proposal would make child care universal, pay relatives or neighbors who provide care, offer monthly stipends to some parents, invest in child care centers, and increase worker pay.

Khanna presented the plan as relief for families struggling with child care bills.

Critics see the same old shell game, with costs shifted from direct payments to taxes while government gains a larger role in family decisions.

“Today, I’m introducing a bold, historic bill to make childcare free and universal for all Americans. If you send your kid to a childcare center, this bill would make that free, and you would not have to worry about paying $10,000 or $15,000 on childcare.”

Of course, removing a bill from a parent’s mailbox does not erase the cost of providing the service.

Someone still pays the workers, maintains the centers, administers the benefits, reviews applications, and handles the mountain of government paperwork that inevitably follows.

The proposal does not stop with established child care centers.

Khanna said the government would also pay family members or neighbors who care for children, dramatically expanding the universe of people who could receive money under the program.

“What if you want your uncle or aunt or grandparent or another family member to take care of your kid? This bill would pay your family members or neighbors to provide that care,” he continued.

“And what if you’re a working-class parent who wants to stay home with your young child? My bill would provide a $1,000 a month stipend to make that possible.”

Khanna also promised federal investment in child care facilities and higher compensation for workers.

“We will also invest in childcare centers across this country and make sure all childcare workers are being paid a living wage.”

To defend the price, Khanna compared his proposal with military spending requested by President Donald Trump.

“This isn’t far-fetched. My bill would cost less than the $200 billion increase that Trump has asked for the Pentagon. Instead of investing in the Pentagon and endless wars in Iran, we should be making childcare free.”

That comparison did not rescue Khanna’s pitch from a brutal response.

The ratio showed that few people agreed with his rosy description of a massive new government program that would supposedly deliver broad benefits without making Americans pay somewhere else.

The criticism goes beyond the obvious tax burden.

Minnesota child care programs were abused by fraudsters to the tune of millions, yet Democrats have shown no interest in seriously combating that fraud before proposing another enormous program vulnerable to abuse.

The plan also raises the familiar problem of government dependency.

If Washington controls access to child care, health care, education, and other supposedly free services, then politicians and bureaucrats gain extraordinary power over services families rely upon.

Khanna’s own wealth makes the sales pitch even richer.

A man whose minor children own golf courses is telling other Americans that they should finance their neighbors’ child care, their own child care, payments to relatives, monthly stipends, facility investments, and government-approved wages.

The word “free” does a remarkable amount of work in Democratic politics.

In this case, it masks a proposal packed with taxpayer expenses, government administration, potential fraud, and deeper federal involvement in how American families arrange care for their children.
