The Washington Capitals star scored twice Tuesday night in a 6-4 win over the Philadelphia Flyers, pushing his season total to 31 goals and giving him yet another place in league history. With that performance, Ovechkin became the first player in NHL history to record 20 different 30-goal seasons.
That mark stands out because it is not just about raw scoring talent. It is about how long Ovechkin has been doing this without the production dropping into nostalgia territory. Since entering the league in 2005-06, he has reached the 30-goal mark in every season but one. The only exception came in 2020-21, when he scored 24 goals in 45 games during a shortened 56-game season and also missed nine games.

Tuesday’s game gave Ovechkin 928 regular-season goals for his career, extending the record he set last year when he moved past Wayne Gretzky’s 894. What makes this season stand out even more is Ovechkin’s age. He has already celebrated his 40th birthday, and he is still scoring at a level that remains rare even for legends.
