The Washington Sun has launched. The new media website is made up of a bunch of rejects from the dying Washington Post. It’s like patients moved from the cancer ward to hospice. From the New York Times:
Here comes “The Sun.”
The Washington Sun, that is — the new name for the news website NOTUS after a trademark lawsuit several months ago stymied the outlet’s plan to rebrand as The Star.
The name, said the editor in chief, Tim Grieve, is intended to reflect the outlet’s expansion into local news and sports coverage in the wake of The Washington Post’s staff cuts at the beginning of the year. It will take effect Wednesday.
“We really wanted Washington in the name of our publication to more clearly convey that we cover Washington, both sort of political Washington and local Washington,” Mr. Grieve said.
Tim Grieve is a leftist, a veteran of Salon. The other “reporters” at the Sun are similarly liberal rejects from the Post. The Sun’s one recognizable name to the general public is the enervating and impotent Dana Milbank. Wheeling Milbank out is like getting David Lee Roth to front your band.
The last time I noticed Milbank, he was lecturing Americans about the importance of due process. He argued in defense of the hundreds of alleged Venezuelan gang members who were sent to an El Salvador prison by invoking the Alien Enemies Act, an 18th-century law that gives wartime authority to deport noncitizens. President Trump has argued that the gang Tren de Aragua is a “hybrid criminal state” that is at war with the United States.
Milbank was outraged that the gang-bangers were sent home, so they claim, without due process. Milbank is the same toad who crucified Brett Kavanaugh in 2018 without giving a damn about due process. In fact, I’m convinced that Milbank knew that Kavanaugh was innocent but didn’t care. This is who the Sun hires?
In March 2025, Milbank devoted a massive piece in the Washington Post to the history and importance of due process. Due process “might sound technical, but it was elemental to our founding and remains at the heart of our legal system.” About the judge fighting Trump on the issue and demanding that the president send deported illegal immigrants back to America, Milbank wrote this: “Judge Boasberg’s actions are squarely within the best tradition of the judiciary, for they are in defense of principle, enshrined in the Bill of Rights, that no person in this country, citizen or alien, may be ‘deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law.’ This is precisely what the Trump administration denied to those it deported and imprisoned.”
When asked how authorities had been able to determine whether the individuals were in a gang, border czar Tom Homan said that authorities had relied on social media, surveillance, sworn statements from gang members, and wiretaps to determine Tren de Aragua affiliation.
Surveillance. Sworn statements from gang members. Wiretaps. Social media. That’s a lot more evidence than was ever marshaled against Kavanaugh — yet Milbank was ready to declare him guilty. In 2018, Kavanaugh, then up for a seat on the Supreme Court, was accused of sexual misconduct, including drugging girls and gang rape. Two of his accusers claimed that I was present with Kavanaugh when the crimes allegedly took place in the 1980s when we were in high school.
It was a political hit job. One accuser couldn’t name the year or place where the misconduct against her allegedly happened. The other claimed she was raped by a raging marauding band of Prep schoolers led by Kavanaugh and me.
“Brett M. Kavanaugh proved himself unfit to serve on the Supreme Court,” Milbank thundered. “It has little to do with his treatment of women.” Milbank knew that we were innocent. He just didn’t care. So he pivoted away from the sex crimes to drinking. Kavanaugh, it appears, drank beer in high school and college.
Then Milbank, who followed Kavanaugh at Yale but never met him, offers this: “I didn’t know Kavanaugh at Yale. We overlapped for a year. But I’m chagrined to admit that I am extensively familiar with the Yale drinking scene of the time, and from mutual friends and acquaintances I have a good sense of the 1980s Kavanaugh and his alcohol intake.”
On top of that, Kavanaugh’s anger at being falsely accused is proof of his guilt. Milbank: “Kavanaugh’s freshman-year roommate at Yale had told The New Yorker that the future Supreme Court nominee could become ‘aggressive’ and ‘belligerent’ when drunk. But, as millions have now seen with their own eyes, he is aggressive and belligerent when stone-cold sober.”
This is who the Washington Sun is using to promote its product. I have a simple challenge for these brave, bold, fearless and go-getting reporters for the look of the new Sun. As I have noted repeatedly on Hot Air and other outlets, Washingtonian magazine recently spiked a profile of me that the magazine begged me to do for six years. They did so because the reporter, Cathy Alter, made me look human. More importantly, I need the names of the people who orchestrated the hit on Brett and me.
Would the Washington Sun ask to see Alter’s profile, or call for the release of the unedited 28,000-word interview I did with her?
That’s what I thought. It’s the same old, same old, same old liberal media — no remorse, no curiosity, no desire for the truth. The Washington Sun arrives a dying star.
