Democrat Meltdown Over Virginia Decision Is Hilarious, and Worrying

As I wrote yesterday, the Democrats’ failure to follow Virginia law and common sense to push an illegal referendum to redraw the congressional district lines in Virginia has been a disaster for them.

Not only did they waste tens of millions of scarce dollars in a futile effort, but they also prompted Republicans to retaliate in spectacular fashion, making it somewhat likely that Republicans will retain the House of Representatives in what was shaping up to be a potentially disastrous midterm election. When all is said and done in the redistricting wars, Democrats will likely lose about 11 safe seats.

I’m just wondering where all the vapors were when Democratic-majority  Pennsylvania state Supreme Court issued  at the end of February  2018  a new congressional district map that would go into effect weeks later in May of that year? It marked the first time a state court threw out federal congressional boundaries and was literally drawn by the Democrat majority Pennsylvania Supreme Court heavily favoring Democrats.

Democrats knew they were on very shaky legal grounds when the referendum’s legality went before the Court, both because it was obvious and because of legal challenges from before the election.

🚨 MAJOR BLOW TO DEMOCRATS IN THE US HOUSE

The VA Supreme Court ruled the Democrat attempt to gerrymander the state and make a 10-1 map is NULL AND VOID.

The Court had been asked to rule on the legal questions surrounding the referendum prior to its being run, and Attorney General Jay Jones successfully argued, and in that case correctly, that the Court didn’t have jurisdiction until the process was complete.

In other words, he knew that the process was shaky and asked the Court to refrain from ruling until the vote took place. The hope was that the Court would be swayed to rule in favor of an illegal referendum result because it was a fait accompli.

CNN does a flashback to Hakeem Jeffries talking big on Virginia redistricting, saying “The law is with us.”

…then delivers the reality check. Brutal. pic.twitter.com/8mlBBKPKNW

The referendum plainly violated the language of the Virginia Constitution, but as we all know, legal niceties are irrelevant to Democrats. They hoped that, having votes in their back pocket, they could intimidate the Court into subverting the law.

Now, having lost at their own Supreme Court, the Democrats are making an even more ridiculous appeal to the US Supreme Court, which has zero jurisdiction over the matter. This isn’t even a Hail Mary; it is a political move intended to make the Virginia decision look politically motivated.

Let me get this straight. Virginia voters created an independent redistricting commission in 2020 specifically to end partisan gerrymandering. Democrats then bypassed their own commission, rushed a constitutional amendment through while over a million people had already voted, and tried to turn a 6-5 seat advantage into 10-1. Obama backed it. Jeffries campaigned for it multiple times. House Majority PAC spent $38 million on it. The Virginia Supreme Court ruled the process violated the state constitution.

Now Jeffries calls it “unprecedented and undemocratic” when a court enforces the constitution against his party. He calls it “voter suppression” when Democrats are stopped from suppressing five Republican districts into one. And he invokes Jim Crow to describe a ruling that upheld the very redistricting reform Virginia voters chose in 2020.

You did not lose your voice. You lost your gerrymander. There is a difference. And the fact that you cannot tell the difference is exactly why you should not be drawing maps.

How seriously do the Democrats take their chances in the US Supreme Court? They didn’t even bother to spell check their pleading, which was riddled with errors.

This whole experience has been a learing process for the Democrats https://t.co/A8RoDb59pr

Of course, this was Jay Jones, the superlawyer the Democrats rallied around, so we should expect no less.

Yikes, you’ve had a rough go of it, eh?
First, you were sloppy and used Jason Miyares’ letterhead.
Then you misspelled ‘attorney.’
Then you argued to allow an illegal referendum to go forward.
Then you brought in CA lawyers to argue your case for you.
Then you lost.
Then you…

Yikes, you’ve had a rough go of it, eh?

First, you were sloppy and used Jason Miyares’ letterhead.

Then you misspelled ‘attorney.’

Then you argued to allow an illegal referendum to go forward.

Then you brought in CA lawyers to argue your case for you.

Then you lost.

Then you filed an appeal to appear before SCOTUS knowing they will laugh at you.

And oh yeah, you can’t spell ‘Virginia,’ or ‘Senator.’

So not only are you dangerous to any Republican and their family, but you’re fairly incompetent.

Ouch.

Well, try and have a nice Saturday anyway. ❤️

The failure to spell “Virginia” or “Senator” correctly may be amusing, but the campaign of slander against the Courts is certainly not. Every Democrat knows that the decision was legally correct. So what they are doing is attacking the legitimacy of the courts. The point of going to the US Supreme Court is to lay the groundwork for slandering it as racist and partisan, to further their effort to pack the courts when given the opportunity.

Yeah, why hasn’t the VA Supreme Court ruled on Florida’s redistricting by pointing out it would violate Virginia’s state constitution!?!?! https://t.co/xMpaWuIS3m

This is a national effort. Democrats are howling from the rooftops about racism, disenfranchisement, the political nature of the courts, and how the system is rigged. And the proof they have is that the Virginia Supreme Court read the plain language of the Constitution and interpreted it correctly.

Democrats are crying foul on many grounds, but the one that sticks out as most ridiculous is the claim that the Court should have ruled before the Democrats wasted all this money. Lots of online commentators are insinuating that it was a conspiracy to make them waste tens of millions of dollars. The court shouldn’t have had to address this ridiculous accusation, but they anticipated and rebutted it:

In plain terms: you guys insisted we shut up, agreed that procedurally we had no standing until the referendum took place, and can’t complain now that we agreed with you.

This is a good point. Instead of what happened here, we need these crucial opinions to be written by the sort of judges that Mark Warner would appoint, who would then be elevated to the state’s Supreme Court via a unanimous vote of all Democrats in the legislature. https://t.co/3fnLJULitq

— Charles C. W. Cooke (@charlescwcooke) May 9, 2026

A lot of left-leaning geniuses in the media and podcastistan keep on asking how the court could have made this decision, and in the process have demonstrated how little they understand Constitutional democracies or even how to read, since everything is easy to read in black and white.

Another one. If, somehow, you didn’t already know this, it’s really not hard to read up before leveling absurd accusations. https://t.co/JbAUbQM8NL pic.twitter.com/JoMjpBywhN

The same Democrats who today are complaining that they got screwed were, just a couple weeks ago, bragging about how they screwed the Republicans, and didn’t even pretend it was anything but pure power politics.

Two weeks ago Louise Lucas and Don Scott held a press conference to celebrate Virginia being able to gerrymander Republicans out of office.

Scott: “We kick their mother****** ass.”

How’d that work out? BTW, what’s Louise Lucas up to nowadays?

Poor Nicolle Wallace. She was so happy after the Scott/Lucas press conference. It may have been the first time that she smiled since 2016.

Oh well. 🤣

It’s fitting that Louise Lucas, one of the architects of this fiasco, who was dancing on Republicans’ graves, is now facing prison in a corruption case that started well before Trump became president.

Hakeem Jeffries emerges after suffering humiliating rebuke in Virginia to angrily trash the Supreme Court for…you guessed it:

“Throwing the American South back into the Jim Crow era.”

One-note song. pic.twitter.com/OFFUzDsox9

It is a metaphor for this whole process. The defeat, in the end, for these hacks is amusing. But their willingness to subvert the law and continued attacks on the courts is scary.
