Elderly San Diego Trump Supporter Beaten Nearly to Death, Motive Unclear

An elderly San Diego man was beaten nearly to death in broad daylight this week. And while my headline may sound like sarcasm, the motive in this case really does seem to be unknown, at least so far. What we do know is that the victim is well-known in the neighborhood for adorning his home with U.S. flags and pro-Trump banners.

A man was taken to a hospital with serious injuries after he was involved in a confrontation on an Escondido street Wednesday afternoon, police said.

Officers responded to the incident after they received a report of an assault against a man on Buchanan Street near E. Mission Avenue around 2:15 p.m., Escondido police Lt. Robert Craig said.

The victim has been identified as 69-year-old veteran Kerry Sheron. Today, Sheron’s wife told the NY Post he remains in critical condition and is not expected to survive.

The wife of the elderly San Diego man brutally beaten outside his MAGA-inspired “Trump House” said there’s “no hope” for her husband after the vicious attack left him fighting for his life.

Kerry Sheron, 69, was in critical condition following the violent assault outside his Escondido property on Wednesday afternoon.

His wife, Maria, revealed to The California Post through tears that her husband isn’t expected to survive…

Sheron, who describes himself as a Army veteran, is known for adorning his Buchanan Street home with Trump flags and other pro-American regalia.

Sheron is clearly an opinionated guy and his choice of home decorations doesn’t suit everyone else in the neighborhood. Apparently he’s had complaints going back years about this. Two months ago someone tore down a bunch of his flags and posted a video saying he’d replaced them immediately.

Vandalism is bad enough, but this week someone escalated to attempted murder. A suspect was quickly picked up by the police.

Upon arrival, officers located an elderly male suffering from significant injuries. A bystander who intervened during the incident was also injured. Officers learned the suspect had fled the area on foot prior to their arrival.

Officers conducted a search of the surrounding area and located an individual matching the suspect’s description near East Mission Avenue and Begonia Street. The suspect was positively identified and taken into custody without incident. He was identified as Thomas Caleb Butler, a 32-year-old resident of Escondido.

Butler has been charged with attempted murder and could spend the rest of his life in prison if he’s convicted. However, there’s a twist here that you may not have seen coming. It sounds like Butler is not an angry progressive straight out of central casting. He’s also a vet and, according to a friend, has some serious mental issues.

The suspect accused of allegedly viciously hurting the elderly owner of the San Diego “Trump House” is a Navy veteran with “severe PTSD,” a family friend exclusively told The California Post…

Butler’s friend even said he “liked” the house, which Butler lived mere blocks away from, and supported President Donald Trump as a registered Republican…

Butler’s family friend says while he was medicated, his mental illness was debilitating.

Of course a family friend might say anything to defend someone they know, but it sounds like the police also don’t see a political motive here.

Police believe the attack had nothing to do with politics and are in the process of speaking to witnesses.

So I don’t know what to make of this. It’s pretty odd that the guy with all the flags and Trump decor gets put in the hospital and everyone says politics had nothing to do with it. Okay, so what else was it about? Apparently Butler didn’t know the victim so there’s no friendship that turned sour or anything like that.

At this point it could be a while until we learn more. We may have to wait until Butler is on trial to find out if this was just someone off his meds who attacked a person at random or if there was some kind of argument before things got physical. As it stands, it really doesn’t make any sense but we won’t know who is telling the truth until we get some more information.
