House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer and Rep. Brandon Gill announced a new congressional task force focused on investigating alleged institutional fraud and abuse involving taxpayer-funded programs, beginning with a Medicaid fraud investigation tied to Ohio.
The lawmakers discussed the new initiative during an appearance with commentator Charlie Hurt, who described the investigation as a major effort to expose government abuse and protect taxpayers.
“That have been weaponized against the American people, and the work starts today with a brand new investigation into Medicaid fraud recently uncovered in Ohio,” Hurt said.
Hurt asked Comer why the House Oversight Committee needed a separate task force to handle these investigations.

“Well? The full committee has been focused a lot on the deep state abuses, like the one you mentioned in your last segment,” Comer said.
According to Comer, the new task force will focus specifically on what he described as institutional abuses involving government agencies, universities and politically connected organizations.
“But what this new task force led by Congressman Gill is going to be focused on institutional abuses, abuses with, you know, obviously, from government institutions as well as politically connected nonprofits and many universities,” Comer said.
Comer said many of the alleged abuses have escaped scrutiny for years.

“These are, these are things that have flown under the radar,” Comer said.
He added that the committee believes some of the alleged actions may have violated constitutional protections and involved discriminatory practices.
“We believe they violated the constitution,” Comer said. “We believe that there have been many instances of discrimination, and that’s what this task force is going to be focused solely on.”
Comer also praised Gill’s leadership role in the investigation.
“And I think that there’s not a better person in America to lead this task force than Congressman Brandon Gill,” Comer said.
Hurt said Medicaid fraud is often treated as a victimless crime despite its impact on taxpayers and legitimate recipients of government aid.
“Well, Congressman Gill, you know, I love that you’ve your first mission is to go after this Medicaid fraud in Ohio, or apparent Medicaid fraud in Ohio,” Hurt said.
“It is not a victimless crime, it is a very serious crime, and the people who always end up the true victims are the taxpayers and the people the rightful recipients of these funds,” Hurt added.
Gill said Americans are frustrated watching taxpayer money allegedly flow into fraudulent programs and organizations.
“That’s exactly right,” Gill said. “And the American people are sick of seeing their tax dollars wasted and seeing government organizations or nonprofit institutions, colleges, businesses abuse the American people, and that’s what we’re going after with this task Task Force.”
Gill claimed investigators uncovered what they believe could involve billions of dollars in fraudulent Medicaid payments.
“What we found with this Ohio fraud scandal is that we’ve got what we believe to be billions of dollars that have been defrauded from American taxpayers that should have been going to benefit the American people,” Gill said.
According to Gill, investigators believe shell companies were used to route taxpayer funds through intermediary organizations that allegedly failed to provide actual healthcare services.
“And instead were being laundered through a wide variety of shell companies that were facile, acting as intermediate intermediaries to facilitate payments to organizations that weren’t providing any type of health care,” Gill said.
Gill said many of the questioned payments were tied to “companionship services” where investigators allegedly found little oversight or verification.
“Ostensibly, this was going towards companionship services where we can’t even verify that the services were actually provided,” Gill said.
He also claimed investigators found no evidence that service providers had proper medical training.
“Where there was no verification that the people providing these services were actually had any medical training whatsoever, and there were no caps on the spending for these programs,” Gill said.
Comer later argued the issue extends beyond Ohio and could involve similar activity in multiple states.
“We want to focus like a laser on fraud,” Comer said.
He pointed to previous fraud investigations involving Somali-related fraud cases in Minneapolis and hospice fraud investigations in Los Angeles County.
“The American people are going to be outraged,” Comer said. “They are outraged what they’ve seen in Minneapolis with the Somali fraud. They’re outraged what they’ve seen in Los Angeles County with the hospice fraud.”
Comer predicted the task force could uncover broader Medicaid fraud across the country.
“And now what I think you’re going to see with Brandon Gill uncover is fraud in all 50 states with respect to the Medicaid program,” Comer said.
Gill accused Democrats of using government programs to direct taxpayer money toward political allies.
“What Democrats want to do is weaponize the federal government and state governments and agencies to launder tax dollars to give to their political allies, to effectively buy off votes,” Gill said.
He argued the task force intends to stop misuse of taxpayer funds and increase accountability in federal programs.
“Whenever you pay your taxes every single year, you want to make sure that your money is actually going to programs that benefit the American people, not programs that benefit explicitly the Democrat party,” Gill said.
Hurt concluded by arguing that massive federal spending creates political advantages for incumbents.
“It turns out that a trillion dollar federal budget is a very effective way to get yourself re elected, and Democrats have figured that out,” Hurt said.
