Hoo boy, we all knew this … in April 2022. Remember when the Easter Bunny ordered the Leader of the Free World off of the rope line at his own White House? Good times, good times …

Signs of Joe Biden’s cognitive decline had emerged for at least a couple of years before that. In his final presidential debate before the 2020 election, Biden spent the last half hour sundowning against Donald Trump in a preview of what would happen nearly four years later in the rematch. Biden’s cranky responses to softballs tossed by George Stephanopoulos in the wake of the Kabul bug-out – “that was five days ago” – prompted a retreat from media engagement in mid-2021 as Biden’s approval numbers cratered, never to recover.
For some reason, though, leading Democrats like Hillary Clinton didn’t speak up at that time, nor did they attempt to intervene when a clearly addled Biden decided to run for a second term. And it has taken almost two years since the disastrous presidential debate exposed the Biden cover-up for Hillary to say this:
Hillary Clinton said former President Joe Biden made a “terrible mistake” by running for reelection in 2024, arguing another Democratic nominee would have defeated President Trump had the party held a competitive primary.

“He made a terrible mistake for himself, his legacy and for the country,” Clinton said. “… I think it was a terrible miscalculation on the part of President Biden.”
But I believe if he had kept to that plan and said, in, say, the late summer of ’23, that he wasn’t going to run, that he was going to pass, you know, the torch to the next generation, we would have had a real contest. And very sadly, I believe whoever emerged from that contest, whether it was the vice president or a governor or a senator or anybody else, would have beaten Donald Trump.
So I think it was a terrible miscalculation on the part of President Biden. But once he didn’t move, and and did not, you know, admit that he had said he was going to step aside and then decided not to, and held on for as long as he did, we were in a terrible dilemma.
This was not a “mistake,” and Democrats only had a dilemma because they took an active part in the cover-up. By late 2023, when Biden announced the decision, donors and other party officials knew Biden didn’t have the capacity for a second term. As the Robert Hur tapes show, Biden could barely sustain a conversation in October 2023 during daytime hours in an investigation of his own actions. As others have belatedly reported in the Now It Can Be Told section of your local Barnes & Noble, Biden struggled to remain coherent at fundraisers, and his team actively limited his schedule to a few hours each day where he might be reliably competent to handle issues.
Democrats had plenty of reasons to suspect that Biden had become incompetent. All they had to do was allow for a normal primary process when Biden announced his decision to seek a second term. Then-House Democrat Dean Phillips and then-Democrat Robert Kennedy Jr attempted to challenge Biden, and the DNC changed the primary rules to prevent any challengers from emerging.
Hillary frames this in passive voice by claiming, “We were in a terrible dilemma,” but all the Clintons and Obamas had to do was to publicly ask the DNC to allow for a normal primary process. Instead, they remained silent and at least tacitly part of the cover-up conspiracy. Perhaps we should call it The President’s Brain Is Missing, after a novel in the 1970s about a different kind of presumed presidential incapacity.
Whatever one wants to call it, the entire Democrat establishment not only knew Biden lacked the cognitive capacity for a second term, they knew his head was mush already. It’s a little late now for party leaders to whine about not having a normal primary when they did everything they could to prevent one. Again, all Hillary had to do in late 2023 was to speak up. Her “terrible dilemma” would have ended and Democrats would have found a nominee to run in 2024. And while Hillary’s not saying this explicitly either, she knows damned well that a regular primary process would have produced a more capable campaigner than the equally incompetent replacement the party rushed onto the ballot in Biden’s place.
