Holly Robinson Peete Blasts Hayden Panettiere’s Mom’s Reaction to Actress’ Death: No ‘Integrity’

Holly Robinson Peete backed Gayle King’s scathing criticism of Lesley Vogel’s reaction to the death of her daughter, Hayden Panettiere, as reported by Page Six.

The former “Talk” cohost took aim at Vogel’s statement about the actress and questioned whether her words showed any integrity.

Peete shared King’s remarks through X on Wednesday and said the journalist was “not wrong” to condemn Vogel’s response. Vogel had described Panettiere as a “talented” artist who was “on the wrong path.”

Peete wrote, “We know this young lady clearly had so many issues, but if you’re not gonna take accountability for the fact that you put her in the business that eventually messed her up then nothing you say has any integrity.”

The 61-year-old also focused on what she believed was missing from Vogel’s public statement. Peete wrote, “She didn’t even say, ‘I will miss my daughter’ or ‘I loved my daughter the best way I could.’ Has she even mentioned the word daughter?”

Peete then referenced Hayden’s brother, Jansen Panettiere, who died in 2023. She continued, “There were so many things she could have said to show us that she was a caring mother … and now both of her children are gone.”

The actress concluded her message by writing, “It is all so tragic ,” followed by “rip Hayden.”

She’s not wrong. We know this young lady clearly had so many issues, but if you’re not gonna take accountability for the fact that you put her in the business that eventually messed her up then nothing you say has any integrity.

Her remarks reinforced King’s frustration with how Vogel addressed her daughter’s death.

King, 71, voiced that frustration during “CBS Mornings” and criticized Vogel, 70, for failing to follow the example set by Hayden’s father, Skip Panettiere. Her reaction centered on the stark difference she saw between the parents’ public comments.

Skip remembered his daughter as an “incredible light and a force of nature.” Hayden suffered an apparent overdose in South Carolina.

Vogel was estranged from Hayden when the actress died. She wrote, “I think Hayden was an amazingly talented person in so many departments.”

Vogel also addressed the difficulties that young people can encounter while growing up in the entertainment industry. Her statement described that environment as a struggle and a very challenging industry, while saying it was not unusual for young performers to sadly find the wrong path.

She additionally blasted Hayden’s on-again, off-again boyfriend, Brian Hickerson. Brian and his brother, Zach Hickerson, were at the scene when the Golden Globe nominee died.

After reading Vogel’s words to viewers on Wednesday, King delivered a cutting response. She quipped, “Thanks, Mom, for nothing.”

King then said, “It makes me so sad of the opportunity that you have after your daughter’s death. That that’s what you choose to leave us with.”

Her co-hosts agreed with the criticism. Vladimir Duthiers called Vogel’s statement “unseemly,” adding, “You would hope a mother’s instinct is just mourn your daughter.”

Three months before her death, Hayden promoted her memoir, “This Is Me: A Reckoning.”

The book described her strained relationship with Vogel, her struggles with alcohol and opioid addiction, her abusive romance with Brian and other parts of her life.

Vogel criticized her “entitled” child’s memoir in May and explained that she had chosen to stop contact with the “Nashville” alum.

She told Page Six that parents of children in entertainment were familiar with watching the destructive paths their children sometimes chose.

Hayden addressed the estrangement in an interview with Us Weekly at the time. She said, “We don’t have a relationship right now. But that doesn’t mean that I don’t leave the door open for the opportunity to present itself one day.”
