And here is proof that Saturday night’s alright for fighting, as the old song says.
Turns out, if you’re a ‘silly’ or ‘stupid’ youth in Mayor Brandon ‘Bear of Little Brains’ Johnson’s Chicago, Saturday night on a long weekend will do just fine.
See, what you do is break out the party favors, call a ‘block party’ – which, believe me, is very different than the ones your parents used to have with potato salad, grilled dinner items, and cold cans of Miller Highlife with well-behaved neighbors on someone’s patio – and generally raise hell.
First, the numbers. Somewhere around 500 exuberant attendees or so generally means it’s a success.
Hopefully, they bring those party favors I was talking about. Remember those string foam shooting little cans?
So passé these days. Kids go bigger and better.

Kids these days are also out a little later than we used to roam, especially when they’re having such a good time with all their little friends.
Police had been in the area of Washburne and Throop since Saturday night, managing a large teen block party. Justin Peters, head of Chitown Crime Chasers, estimated 500 people were involved.
By around midnight, police supervisors began towing vehicles to clear streets and stop more people from arriving by car. But the crowd continued to grow and become increasingly unruly. CPD brought in teams from districts across the city to carry out the effort, but the sheer size of the crowd, which at times broke into fights and pepper spray battles, made it difficult for some officers to get close to the scene.

So, the cops towing didn’t seem to slow the party down a bit – you know how silly youths are when they get all fired up – because three hours later, didn’t it all go wrong completely.
Wrong-way driver, wrong. I’m sure that’s the excuse.
…At approximately 2:51 a.m., the deputy chief notified dispatchers that westbound Roosevelt Road was being reopened, according to police radio transmissions. About three minutes later, witnesses said a westbound vehicle traveling on Roosevelt slammed into a crowd of people at Loomis Street.
“My violence prevention team was helping, pushing the crowd back and then this car just came out of nowhere and just plowed through the whole crowd,” Peters said in a video posted to Facebook. “There are several police officers who are on the ground.”

Meanwhile, @ChicagosMayor is more concerned about the terminology for teen takeovers than the safety of our officers.
Prayers for the injured officers. Wishing them a speedy and full recovery.
I wonder how a weapon wound up in the teenager’s wrong way car?
Or am I not supposed to ask?
And the officers are in ‘fair’ condition, which is certainly not great by any stretch of the imagination.
The Bear of ‘law enforcement is a sickness‘ Little Brains certainly won’t allow anyone to inquire if it’s up to him.
…This is days after Chicago Mayor Brandon “Tiny” Johnson said, “Last week we made multiple arrests at a gathering and then another gathering happened the following week. If we think we can arrest our way to safety, we are wrong. We ask police to do too much.”
But the big old block party/demolition derby was only one of the hotspots in Johnson’s anti-cop Chicago last night.
If you wanted chaos, it sure sounds like you didn’t have to travel far to find it. Maybe it even came to you whether you wanted it or not.
