Secretary of State Marco Rubio may spend his days handling serious foreign policy challenges, but a recent podcast appearance revealed another useful skill.
The Florida Republican has a knack for delivering dry jokes with the straightest possible face.
Rubio joined the Katie Miller Podcast and quickly turned an ordinary conversation into a Cabinet comedy session.
His targets included Pete Hegseth, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., an unusually territorial cat, fermented vegetables, and one beloved American breakfast pastry.

The performance was another reminder that Rubio can be genuinely funny when he drops the prepared political language.
His viral Oval Office sofa pose already gave the internet plenty of material, but now Rubio appears ready to supply the punchlines himself.
The first victim was War Secretary Pete Hegseth, or more precisely, one of the cats belonging to the Hegseth household.
“I never took Pete for a cat guy,” Rubio began, sounding almost disappointed by the discovery.

Rubio explained that the animal frequently appears on his porch at night and behaves as though the secretary of state is trespassing.
“One of Pete’s cats, oftentimes I’ll get home at night, and the cat is just sitting on my porch and just looks at me like, ‘What are you doing here?’” he added.
“Like that kind of attitude about it.”
His wife, Jeanette Rubio, attempted to defend Hegseth by suggesting that the cats were probably brought into the family for the children.
Rubio was not interested in letting either Hegseth or the feline escape that easily.
“But the cat is a very arrogant cat,” Rubio interjected, delivering the accusation with all the seriousness of a diplomatic complaint.
In Rubio’s telling, this was not merely a confused neighborhood pet, but a furry squatter with a serious entitlement problem.
“To be honest, it’s a very arrogant cat because the cat is on my porch acting like, you know, ‘What are you doing in my house?’” Rubio said.
“It’s like, it’s not your house; your house is two doors down.”
Rubio added that the cat does not even flinch when approached, as if Cabinet officials are beneath its notice.
Somewhere in Washington, a bureaucrat is probably drafting a territorial agreement before this porch dispute becomes an international incident.

After dispatching Hegseth’s cat, Rubio moved on to Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
Kennedy is famous for his intense approach to exercise, food, and personal health, which apparently requires more travel equipment than some military deployments.
Asked whether he had adopted Kennedy’s regimen of red meat and fermented vegetables, Rubio quickly described it as a “crazy diet.”
There would be no attempt to pretend that hauling sauerkraut around the globe is a normal feature of American diplomacy.
“This is a diet that consists of eating sauerkraut and meat. Now, you understand like, this is not a sustainable thing,” Rubio quipped.
“You can’t just walk into … He has to travel with coolers.”
Rubio then drew a firm line against joining Kennedy’s traveling meat locker lifestyle.
“I’m not going to travel the world with a cooler full of sauerkraut. It’s ridiculous. I can’t do it.”
The conversation became even more entertaining when Rubio was asked whether he follows the Make America Healthy Again movement.
He said he supports MAHA, but Jeanette immediately exposed him as “completely not,” noting his affection for Pop Tarts.
Rather than retreat, Rubio mounted a full defense of the foil wrapped breakfast staple, praising it as one of America’s great innovations.
Forget fermented cabbage and carefully packed coolers, because Rubio apparently prefers a portable pastry that requires no diplomatic convoy.
WATCH:
Comedian Gary Gulman has argued that the pastry’s name promises far more fruit and substance than the product delivers.
Rubio, however, treated the shiny package and sugary contents as proof that American ingenuity remains alive, convenient, and ready for the toaster.
The exchange showed a relaxed side of Rubio that voters rarely see during hearings, press conferences, or diplomatic negotiations.
If politics ever stops working out, he might have a future in comedy, provided Hegseth’s cat allows him to leave his own porch.
