Authorities in Arizona are investigating allegations of cyberbullying following the death of Darrell Sheets, a longtime figure on the A&E reality series Storage Wars. Sheets died Wednesday at age 67, according to law enforcement officials, as reported by Page Six.

The Lake Havasu City Police Department confirmed that its criminal investigations unit is reviewing claims that Sheets may have been targeted online prior to his death. Sergeant Kyle Ridgway, a public information officer for the department, said, “We are aware of these cyberbullying accusations, and that is a part of the active investigation.”

Sheets’ body was found at his home, where police said he died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

According to a department press release, “The male was pronounced deceased on scene, and the Lake Havasu City Police Department’s criminal investigations unit was notified and responded to the scene to assume the investigation.”

Here’s What They’re Not Telling You About Your Retirement

Authorities added that Sheets’ family has been notified and that the body was transferred to the Mohave County Medical Examiner’s Office for further review.

Following news of the death, fellow Storage Wars cast member Rene Nezhoda spoke publicly about his concerns regarding online harassment. In a video shared on Instagram, Nezhoda said Sheets had been dealing with a specific individual online.

“He had this guy, like, really, really tormenting him lately and cyberbullying [him],” Nezhoda said. “Darrell has been posting a lot about the guy that’s been cyberbullying him and tormenting him, and I really hope [law enforcement] look into that guy and it’s just not a pass.”

Nezhoda also addressed fans directly in the video, emphasizing that public figures can face challenges that are not visible on television.

“Guys, just because you watch us on television doesn’t mean you know us,” he said. “It doesn’t mean you know what we’re about.”

He continued, “As a matter of fact, if you have somebody in your life that thinks it’s funny to cyberbully other people … slap them in the back of the head.”

“Make them become a better human being, because you never know what demons somebody faces and what they go through and what you might push them through,” he added, urging viewers to “be better.”

Nezhoda also spoke about his relationship with Sheets, saying the two maintained a friendship despite on-screen competition.

“I know a lot of you guys think we hated each other because we competed a lot on the show and, you know, we had our moments,” he said. “We had our run-ins, but that’s because we were both competitors, right?”

“Deep down, me and Darrell were friends,” he continued. “We talked every now and then. He’s a very hard worker that cared more than anyone I’ve probably ever met about their family.”

Sheets was featured in 163 episodes of Storage Wars between 2010 and 2023 and became known by the nickname “The Gambler” for his approach to bidding on storage units. After his time on the show, he lived in Arizona and operated an antique shop, Havasu Show Me Your Junk.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue reviewing the circumstances surrounding Sheets’ death and the reported online activity.
