U.S. and Iran Trade Strikes as Tehran Targets American Bases in Jordan [WATCH]

Direct fighting between the United States and Iran erupted again late Sunday after Tehran launched ballistic missiles and drones toward American forces in Jordan.

The attack followed a U.S. strike on Iranian forces preparing to send sea mines into the Strait of Hormuz, ending a monthlong lull.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it targeted two air bases operated by the United States in Jordan.

Tehran described the barrage as retaliation for the American operation against Iranian launchers on Larak Island, near the northern entrance to the crucial waterway.

A U.S. official told CNN that missiles fired into Jordan were intercepted and that no impacts had been reported.

A separate American source told Fox News that nearly all incoming missiles were stopped, with no significant impacts reported.

Jordan’s armed forces also said its defenses intercepted and destroyed eight missiles after they entered Jordanian airspace.

Those reports sharply contradicted the victory claims quickly pumped out by Iran’s state-controlled propaganda operation.

The IRGC claimed its ballistic missiles destroyed technical and maintenance facilities, along with locations where enemy fighter jets were stationed.

Iranian state media insisted the attacks caused “heavy damage” at King Hussein Air Base and Al Azraq Air Base.

Iran called the combined missile and drone assault “Punishment of the Aggressor” and threatened even greater violence if American operations continued.

“Every shot will be met with more devastating responses,” the IRGC said, according to Iran’s Press TV.

The Iranian barrage came only hours after U.S. forces struck two launchers on Larak Island.

American officials said Iranian personnel were preparing to threaten shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, a commercial lifeline that Tehran has repeatedly tried to hold hostage.

“Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps forces were observed preparing to launch rockets with sea mines into the Strait of Hormuz,” U.S. Central Command spokesman Capt. Tim Hawkins said.

The military moved before those weapons could be used to endanger ships and disrupt international commerce.

Hawkins said American forces were “monitoring the area closely” and “remain prepared to protect the free flow of commerce through this essential waterway.”

That mission carries enormous economic consequences because a major share of global energy traffic passes through the narrow strait.

The Larak operation marked the first acknowledged American strike on Iran since July 29.

During that pause, the Trump administration increasingly leaned on severe economic pressure while keeping military force available should Tehran once again test Washington’s resolve.

Iranian officials responded with their usual mix of threats and chest pounding.

Ebrahim Azizi, chairman of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, warned, “Test our will once more, and pay a heavier price.”

Azizi added, “Retaliation is coming; JUST RUN!” IRGC spokesman Hossein Mohebi separately called the American action a “strategic and fatal error” by the Trump administration and predicted “severe repercussions” in both military and economic arenas.

President Donald Trump had already made the American position unmistakably clear after U.S. forces removed sea mines from international shipping lanes.

“Iran has been notified that any ship or boat placing new mines will be immediately and systematically destroyed,” Trump said Tuesday.

Trump added that the United States was maintaining a “Zero Tolerance” policy toward additional mine placement.

For Tehran, that warning removed any illusion that Iranian vessels could quietly seed the waterway with explosives and escape an immediate response.

American forces in Jordan have repeatedly found themselves at the center of this confrontation.

Three U.S. Army soldiers were killed in an Iranian ballistic missile attack on Muwaffaq Salti Air Base on July 17, prompting another round of American retaliation.

Trump warned afterward that Tehran would “pay many times over” for every American service member killed.

Fighting continued through late July and culminated in what CENTCOM called a “heavy wave of strikes” against IRGC targets on July 29.

On Aug. 1, Trump announced that he would delay additional strikes following appeals from Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.

Sunday’s exchange shattered that pause, with Washington defending a vital shipping route and Tehran again gambling with American firepower.
